Façade renovation · Light render · Façade insulation · Black plinth · Mechelen Light render and a black plinth
A beautiful refresh for this home in Mechelen. The old façade was given a smooth, even layer of render with a stylish black finish at the bottom, resulting in a modern, perfectly insulated outer shell.
In Mechelen we carried out a targeted façade renovation to give this characterful home a fresh, contemporary look. By wrapping the façade completely in high-quality insulation and finishing it with a light-coloured, dirt-repellent decorative render, we not only modernised its appearance but also greatly improved the energy efficiency of the home. The dark plinth at the bottom creates a crisp contrast and extra protection against splashing water.

How we went about it 3 steps, one point of contact.
Phase 1Preparation and insulation
Thorough cleaning and preparation of the substrate, followed by the seamless installation of high-quality façade insulation boards across the entire outer wall.
Phase 2Reinforcement and decorative render
A reinforcing mesh embedded in the base coat to prevent cracking, finished with a smooth, light-coloured layer of water-repellent render.
Phase 3Finishing the plinth
Installation and finishing of the dark façade plinth at the base of the building, providing a visual base and extra resistance to rising damp.

The result What the renovation delivered.
A modern transformation
The dated façade has been turned into a sleek, bright surface that instantly modernises the home.
Energy-saving
The thick layer of external wall insulation under the render keeps the heat in during winter and out during summer.
A long service life
Thanks to the reinforcement layer and the water-repellent properties of the render, the façade is protected against cracks and moisture.
Easy to maintain
Dirt finds it harder to stick to the new finishing coat, and the dark plinth protects the most vulnerable zone at the bottom.

Frequently asked questions About this project.
What is the advantage of render on insulation over cavity wall insulation?
External wall insulation finished with render wraps the home completely without thermal bridges, resulting in much higher insulation performance. And you get a completely new, fresh façade straight away.
Does a light render façade need much maintenance?
The modern decorative renders we use are vapour-permeable and water-repellent, so rain washes away most of the dirt. The black plinth at the bottom protects the façade from splashing muddy water, keeping maintenance to a minimum.
Can render be applied over my existing brick wall?
Yes, in most cases we can apply the insulation boards and render directly to the existing masonry, provided the substrate is stable and properly prepared.
